One of the Wolfes proudest efforts and hard work lies in Columbia, whena line of old auto shops that were closed and forgotten was called MOTOR ALLEY. A row of buildings that lost its spark, when everyone thought it’s a trash, Mike saw it as an antique. With hardworking and vision, Mike and his team turned it into a lively area with lots of shops, cafes, studios, bringing a lot of energy, having artists and providing businesses. Travellers are specially attracted towards this place due to its history and massive transformation.
4. TWO LANES: The Roadmap of a Mission
All the work that Mike was doing was remarkable, yet he decided to share these stories beyond bricks and mortar, Mike Wolfe launched Two lanes, a brand and a storytelling platform. It is both a digital and an online platform, where documentary, adventures and highlights of American Makers are shown. Also it offers handcrafted goods that holds deep meanings like leather tool rolls, enamel mugs and artisan made bags are not just products, they are hard work that echoes simplicity and a story behind , through Two Lanes, Wolfe has built a connection between old and modern times so that it can be remembered forever.
5.100 BUILDINGS,100 STORIES
The most interesting and daring work of Mike Wolfe in his Passion Project is called 100 buikdings,100 stories. His goal is very difficult but very clear, he wants to rebuild 100 old buildings and provide them with life all across 50 states by 2027.this is not only about construction , it’s about the people who worked in it, the workers who built it and the communities who lived in it. By providing a new life to these buildings, Wolfe will re-create an area that held a lot of stories which will ever be vanished into dust.
More than 20 projects have already been completed, each one is holding its own sparkle providing with Americas living history.
6. WHY PRESERVATION MATTERS?
Some of you might think what’s the point of rebuilding old stuff when you can make new ones which will be cheaper and faster as well?
When landmarks like small towns that used to be lively disappear, people lose the spark and a part of their soul as well. Century old garages, gas stations or buildings are not just old stuff, they hold stories of how they were built, the hard work of workers and the incredible thoughts of constructors, when all these constructions used to be difficult these pieces of art were shocking and they should be rebuild so that their sparkle should stay same and fascinate more and more people around .
Rebuilding these will save the architecture of old times, the memories of family trips, the reminders of business startups that are now fully grown and the stories of how difficult they were to be built at that time.
